domestic violence, ritual abuse…), being in a war or
displaced by a war, or sudden and major emotional
losses.
One of the leading causes of PTS(D) is sexual
violence, and those who experienced sexual
trauma have a higher risk of developing PTS(D).
A shocking statistic: 17% of combat troops are
women. 71% of female military personnel develop
Post Traumatic Stress due to sexual assault within
the ranks.
In the general population, we find that 1 out of 5
people will experience Post Traumatic Stress.
However, with first responders (Paramedics,
Rescue Teams, Firefighters, Police), the statistic
shows that 30% of them will develop Post
Traumatic Stress.
C-PTS(D)
Complex Post Traumatic Stress, although not
recognized in the DSM-5, is gaining acceptance.
Post Traumatic Stress can be triggered by ONE
event, which may have many facets.
