PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE
Speaking Engagements, research and partnerships –Carol Stolt and Jan Behounek presented at the
Missouri Community College Association and Society of College and University Planners on the topic
of neurodiversity and Higher Education spaces. Our understanding and research extended to learning
from two mental health professionals who co-presented, offering a different perspective and
educational aspect to the presentation, as well as personal accounts.
This has led us to develop a campus
facilities checklist to include with
typical facility assessments,
addressing special needs for the
neurodiverse, giving students options
and choices. We seek to partner with
institutions, such as St. Louis
Community College, to research our
own projects and offer evidence
based design solutions to current and
future clients. This research approach
has been identified as a priority for
2023.
The Practice Area has also increased
its exposure through work with SCUP
and AIA. Cory Kamholz is a co-chair for
the AIA Chicago Chapter Education
Knowledge Committee and he spoke
at Chicago Builds this year. Lori Everett
spoke to Missouri University library
science students about designing
libraries with the hope they will
remember us in the future as they
become librarians with facilities to
renovate.
