Steps forward - Accomplishments for the year are different than expected, but they are bigger and
better than anticipated. At the end of the fiscal year, we won our biggest project since the Wheaton
College Armerding Performing Arts Center was awarded in 2015; and we began presenting again at
conferences, expanding our thought leadership and partnerships.
We focused on our story and mission, put practices in place to share across the regions, and identified
our gaps compared to our competitors or those we want to compete against.
This year, with consideration of the 2022 accomplishments, we look to reset, focus, and develop the
practice area in some different ways.
2022 ACCOMPLISHMENTS/WORK
The following review addresses several of our most important 2022 goals.
2022 GOAL 1 – Unify the Practice Area, Build the Team: While there is much more to do, reflecting on
this goal, the practice area has taken leaps forward. This unification can be seen in the
accomplishments in the other goals, as well.
• The core HE team across regions has been collectively and actively working on our story,
communication tools, and marketing materials.
• Cross office collaboration on the St. Louis Community College Transportation Center project.
2022 GOAL 2 – Growing the Practice Area – expanding the portfolio and elevating design expertise:
• Expanding the Portfolio and Building Relationships
o Awarded two new significant ground-up projects:
Harper College Business and Social Sciences Building in Palatine, Illinois - $60 million
construction cost. With Robert A.M. Stern Architects as our design partner, we have the
opportunity to build a partnering relationship in addition to a new relationship with an
institution we have sought work at previously, but had not been successful until now.
We brought together the right team, crafted the right approach, and prevailed in the
interview. Dave Yandel will be leading this project.
