DECADE: 2010s
Newspaper is the foundational material in my practice as an artist. I am a cutter and
spinner of headlines and all that follows. Papers' stories, from different days and
different places, have become the fabric of the final thread. Each step of the process,
cutting the newspaper into thin stripped, spinning the stripes into a yarn, to the weaving.
the knitting or the wrapping is long and meticulous. Each step becomes a meditation. In
times of fast technology, I enjoy the slow and deliberate pace of using hands-on
traditional tools and method.
The common object in all the places I have lived in, is Newspaper. I work with papers
from places with significant personal experience -The New York Times in the days
following 9/11, from Resist, a newspaper that accompanied the Women's March from
January of 2017, journals from cities where I have lived in both Europe and America.
The newspaper becomes
an expression of my
integration in a new place
or a form of nostalgia for
the one I have left.
