P. 12

Overview for YR Summer Term Part 1 and Part 2
            4. Give the children alphabet strips to cut up and shake around in a bag. Let them then try to sort the
letters into alphabetical order. They could select and lay out any four letters for their friends to sort
                into alphabetical order.

            5. Talk about looking at the first letter of every word to sort words into alphabetical order. Give
                examples.

            6. The worksheet could be used if it is thought necessary to consolidate their learning. Some children
may like to find a word beginning with each letter of the alphabet.

            7. End by thanking God that he is a God of order and by praying that we too should be people of order.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

            1. The children should be confident in sorting things into alphabetical order.

            2. They should recognise that this ordering is seen in dictionaries, telephone books, etc.

                                                        NUMBERS

        Truth to Teach (Source)

            • God gave us numbers to help us to count and to be ordered.

            • Numbers never end, just like God’s amazing love.

            • Number words are used when we write stories.

            • To recognise, write and spell all, or some, of the number words.

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Review the previous lessons.

            2. Talk about God giving us numbers to help us to be ordered.

            3. Give each child, or pair of children, a pot of number words to sort into the correct order.

            4. Ask some questions which require a number answer so that the children can find the answer and hold it
up, eg How many thumbs have you got? How many corners does a square have? How many days in a
                week?

            5. The children could write their own sentences with number words in them or they could complete the
                worksheet.

            6. The children could practise writing the number words.
