Overview for YR Summer Term Part 1 and Part 2
WRITING SENTENCES
Lessons 5-6
Truth to Teach (Source)
• To give the children opportunity to write some sentences about chosen topics.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. Let the children write some sentences about chosen topics to reinforce sentence structure. Some
children may need to say their sentence for an adult to copy it onto a piece of paper for them to then
write. Other children may just need the difficult spellings given to them.
More able children may be extended by asking them to write longer sentences.
Illustrations can be added if time allows.
3. Gather to share the children’s work at the end.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should be confident in writing a simple sentence with a capital letter and full stop.
Summer Term
ALPHABETICAL ORDER
Truth to Teach (Source)
• God is a God of order.
• Meaning of the word ‘order’.
• By putting things in alphabetical order when appropriate, we too can be people of order.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Show the children some simple dictionaries, a telephone book, an address book, etc, asking them to
recognise how the pages are arranged. Hopefully, they will see that the items are in alphabetical order
and this helps us to find names/words quickly.
2. Talk about the meaning of ‘order’ by putting the children in height order or age order. Discuss times
when we may need to do this, eg for a school photograph, in the register.
3. Remind the children of how God brought order and beauty out of chaos when he created the world.
Talk about areas of responsibility the children have into which a state of order could be brought, eg
their desks, bedrooms, etc.
