• Colour words can enrich our written work.
• To learn to recognise and use colour words.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Read the story of Joseph’s coloured coat from a children’s Bible storybook. Ask the children to suggest
as many colours as they can, writing them on the board as they share them.
3. Let the children close their eyes and imagine what the world would be like if it was all in black and
white. Remind them that God created a brightly coloured world, full of interest and variety.
4. Talk about times when we write stories and how much colours can add interest to our work. Put a basic
sentence on the board then add colour words.
Eg I have a dog.
I have a brown and white dog.
I have a dark brown and white dog.
5. Flashcards with colours written on them could be held up for the children to read.
6. Let them practise writing some of the colour words on paper or on small boards.
7. One or both of the worksheets could be used or an alternative activity found to reinforce the words.
8. End by thanking God for the beautiful colours he has made for us to enjoy.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should recognise colour words and be inspired to add them to their writing where
appropriate.
