LESSON 3
W Writing a poem without rhyming words
Let the children select a plant or animal about which to write a poem
without rhyming words. Draw attention to the previous week’s teaching.
LESSON 4
Poetry appreciation
Read and discuss a poem such as ‘The Owl and the Pussy-Cat’ by Edward
Lear.

Let the children write about the poem following discussion about the more
challenging vocabulary. Encourage them to be honest in their appraisal of
the poem.
