DICTIONARY WORK 1
Truth to Teach (Source)
Nehemiah 8:8 ‘They read from the book of the Law of God, making it
clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what
was being read.’
It is important for us to increasingly understand what we read,
especially In the Bible.
Dictionaries may be used to look up the meaning of new words,
giving us definitions.
Dictionaries help us to spell words accurately.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Show lots of different dictionaries and discuss how and when we use
them. Talk about the contents and index pages, etc. Point out that the
first and last words on a double page are often written at the tops of
the pages so that people can find words more easily.
2. If every child has a dictionary various words could be given for them
to look up.
3. Talk about how the words are arranged alphabetically.
4. Review how to order words beginning with different letters then
beginning with the same letter(s).
E.g. ark, Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth, water, storm
bat, bear, bug, boar, bison, blackbird,
