DICTIONARY WORK 2
Truth to Teach (Source)
Nehemiah 8:8 ‘They read from the book of the Law of God, making it
clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what
was being read.’
It is important for us to increasingly understand what we read,
especially In the Bible.
Dictionaries may be used to look up the meaning of new words,
giving us definitions.
Dictionaries help us to spell words accurately.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lesson.
2. Let the children work in pairs or groups to find two words for
their friend(s) to look up in a dictionary.
3. Give challenges to the class, e.g. the first child to find how to
spell hippopotamus, consequential, circumstance, choir.
4. If the children are using good dictionaries they may indicate
whether a word is a noun (n), a verb (v), adjective (adj), adverb
(adv), preposition (prep), etc. Point this out to the children and
draw their attention to any other information found in the
dictionaries.
5. Let the children try the worksheet or give some other activity to
give the children practice at using a dictionary.
