CONNECTIVES
Truth to Teach (Source)
Connectives which link ideas within a sentence are called
conjunctions.
Other connectives link together ideas in separate sentences.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Talk about conjunctions linking ideas within sentences but other
connectives linking ideas in separate sentences. (Conjunctions are
a kind of connective.)
3 Explain that when writing a story with consecutive events
connectives such as the following could be used.
next, later, suddenly, after that, finally, meanwhile, now, then,
eventually, firstly, secondly, ….
E.g. Jesus saw the five thousand hungry people. Suddenly, a
boy offered his lunch to help feed the people.
The brothers captured Joseph. After that they threw him down a
pit.
Explain that these connectives are ‘time connectives’.
4. Talk about ‘cause and effect connectives’ e.g. because, therefore,
so, consequently.
