Overview of Y2 Summer Term
MORE SPOKEN WORDS
Truth to Teach (Source)
Proverbs 16.13-24 Pleasant, truthful and wise words do people good.
To give further practice on speech marks
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review what was introduced in the previous lesson, recalling the heart concept as well as
academic concepts too.
2. Show what to do when the speaker comes after the spoken words rather than before them,
for example:-
“Love each other,” said Jesus.
Concentrate on the speech marks and do not be over concerned about the commas.
3. Read through the relevant worksheet together, using some of the sentences there to
reinforce good speech habits. Ask the children to complete it. More able children could
write some sentences containing direct speech and speech marks on the back of it.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children will have consolidated and extended their knowledge of speech marks, in
particular in sentences when the speaker is identified after his recorded words.
2. They will know that Jesus’ words were full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
2. They should be encouraged to speak pleasantly and truthfully.
