HABITATS
Truth to Teach (Source)
Proverbs 30:24-28b
To look at the habitats mentioned in these verses.
To show that living organisms are adapted to their environment and are interdependent.
To recognise how living organisms are adapted to a range of habitats.
Habitats around the home/school.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. Define the word ‘habitat’. (A place where a plant or animal lives.)
Talk about a habitat providing a place for a particular organism to breathe, eat, sleep and
reproduce.
3. Read the verses from Proverbs and let the children identify the habitats.
4. Give groups of children different habitats to let them write lists of plants and animals they
may find there. Show pictures of a desert, pond, seashore, wood, field, etc to give ideas.
5. Gather back to share briefly. Talk about why man is able to live almost anywhere but living
organisms cannot.
6. Put names of living organisms on the board for the groups to discuss how they are adapted
to their environment.
E.g. cactus, seaweed, giraffe, worm, mole, squirrel, bee, trout
7. Gather back to share. Talk about why some living things have become extinct.
8. Get the children to walk around the home to list smaller habitats within the grounds, e.g.
under a stone, tree, wall
9. Let the children complete the worksheet or write notes of their own. (Jumbled words =
North Pole, jungle, rocks, underground)
