                                  CLASSIFICATION OF LIVING THINGS



        Truth to Teach (Source)

                      To use keys to classify living things.

                      To introduce the word ‘organisms’ to denote all living things.

                      To learn the main characteristics of the groups of animals.

        Way to Work (Means)

            1.   Review the previous lesson by looking at the homework sheets on the Kingdoms.

            2.   By question and answer, starting with what the children already know, go through the main
                 characteristics of living animals in preparation for using the classification keys. (See sheet)
                 Introduce the word ‘organisms’.

            3.   Give the children the keys to identify the animals. They could draw pictures of the animals
                 around the key.


            4.   Gather back after a set time to review.

            Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

            The children will be more familiar with the groups of animals and their distinguishing features.
            They should be able to use classification keys to locate animals in their correct family group.
