Genesis 2:19 ‘Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and
all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name
them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.’
Genesis 1:29 ‘Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole
earth and every tree that has fruit in it. They will be yours for food.”’
• To further appreciate the wisdom of God in creation.
• To learn how plants and animals within an environment can be identified and classified.
• To appreciate that the range of plants and animals makes it necessary to identify and
classify them.
• To show that living organisms are adapted to their environment and are
interdependent.
• To learn about different plants and animals occurring in different habitats.
• To learn about food chains which indicate feeding relationships in a habitat.
• To learn that virtually all food chains begin with a green plant.
• To discover that micro-organisms are living things that can be beneficial or harmful.
• To describe and group rocks on the basis of characteristics, including appearance,
texture and permeability.
• To learn how soils are formed, depending on the rock from which they come.
Way to Work (Means)
The children will be taught through weekly lessons, but will also conduct their own research
individually and in groups. They will use the internet and other resources.
