Science Y5 – God’s Amazing Matters – lesson 1
is being harmed. Talk about people’s/nations’ desire for wealth, often at the expense of other
people’s/nations’ well-being. Discuss whether this was God’s plan.
5. Discuss which resources can be mined/quarried/reached in and from rocks. (Stone, iron, lead,
copper, coal, gold, silver, minerals, clay, salt, oil, etc) Let the children work in their pairs to
identify all the resources mentioned in Job 28.
6. Gather back to compile a list. Talk briefly about the dangers and difficulties of mining,
quarrying and separating metals or minerals from ores. (Danger to lives, very little
metals/minerals in large amounts of ore, accessibility, underwater)
7. Let the children begin designing their cover for their project either by hand or on the
computer. Share suggestions for lettering and art-work. This may need to be completed later
or for homework.
8. Give time at the end of the lesson for the children to look at books and other resources to
envision them for the term’s work. Inform them as to which materials will be studied during
the course of the term – wood, rubber, glass, plastics, oil, metals, textiles, rocks and minerals.
9. End by thanking God for all the resources he has given us to enjoy and use.
Pray for leaders of the world to be just in trading resources.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children will have been envisioned for the term’s work on ‘God’s Amazing Matters’.
2. They will be able to identify the natural resources given to us in God’s creation and should
begin to appreciate the problems in using them fairly for the good of everyone.
3. They should also recognise resources hidden in rocks and the challenges in accessing them.
4. It is hoped that they will increasingly have a desire to use resources wisely.
