                       Sentences may contain a main and a subordinate clause.

        Use a ruler to underline the main clauses in these sentences.

        1.     When I get up in the morning, I feel very tired.

        2.     Although I don’t like cheese, those sandwiches are delicious.

        3.     The lady, who looks after the children, is retiring.

        4.     Jesus, who is the Son of God, performed many miracles.

        5.     Mr James left early because he was going to London.

        Use a ruler to underline the subordinate clauses in these sentences.

        1.     My friend, who is called Jack, is sharing his lunch with me.

        2.     It was getting dark when we arrived home.

        3.     Although we live in the UK, we can travel to other parts of the world.

        4.     My new coat, which I bought yesterday, has got dirty.

        5.     This computer, although it’s my dad’s, is very unreliable.

        Join these pairs of sentences with a conjunction to make one sentence with two clauses.

        You may have to change some words too.

        1.     Joseph was given a coloured coat. His father gave it to him.
