MONTHS OF THE YEAR
Truth to Teach (Source)
Ecclesiastes 3:1 ‘There is a time for everything …’
Time is a God-given gift to be used wisely.
The year is divided into months in an orderly way.
The months are cyclical rather than linear.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lesson and days of the week.
2. Show the children a variety of calendars and explain that a year is divided
into twelve months. Once one year has gone we pass into the next - January
follows December.
3. Remind the children of God’s orderly way of working. Explain that our
calendar was designed by people many years ago to help us to work in an
orderly way too.
4. Let each child share which month their birthday is in. A birthday graph could
be created with the children sticking a coloured square on the month of their
birthday.
5. Practise saying the months so that the children become familiar with the
order of them. They could practise putting cards with the months written on
in order.
6. Talk about events we recognise in some months, e.g. Christmas, school
holidays, Bonfire night, start of the school year
7. Let the children try the worksheet and/or create a calendar of their own.
8. End by thanking God for the gift of time and praying that we will use our time
wisely.
