ANIMAL FAMILIES
Truth to Teach (Source)
Genesis 6:19 ‘You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and
female, to keep them alive with you.’
God created most animals as male and female to ensure the continuation of
species.
Male, female and baby animals often have special names.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Use a model/toy Noah’s Ark to illustrate the lesson with male and female
animals.
Review the story with the children through questions and answers.
3. Explain that God created male and female creatures so that they could have
babies of their own. Male, female and baby animals often have special names
just like people. Remind the children of the male/female lessons of the
previous term.
4. Show pictures of common animals with their babies. Establish how many
names the children already know of male, females and babies.
5. Give lots of opportunity to practise the names by giving the male then letting
the children give the female and baby names and vice versa. Cards with the
names could be cut out for the children to sort into families, eg cow, bull, calf.
6. Introduce the worksheet or let the children record their work in other ways.
7. End by thanking God for the amazing number of creatures he has created.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should be familiar with the names of a selection of male, female
and baby animals.
