DOING WORDS – PRESENT TENSE VERBS

            Truth to Teach (Source)

Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’

God has created our bodies so that we can move and perform many different
                    actions.

To recognise and use doing words / present tense verbs in writing.

            Way to Work (Means)

                1. Review naming words (common and proper nouns).

                2. Explain that we are looking at different kinds of words today. These words are
so important that every sentence needs one. They are called ‘doing words’.

                3. Talk about some of the actions our bodies can perform. Give the children some
actions to do or use action songs.

                4. Read out some simple sentences for the children to put up their hand when

they hear an action word, e.g. I write with a pencil. I jump up high. I lie in a
                    bed.

                5. Let the children try the worksheet after explaining it to them. More able

children could create lists of verbs from their reading books.

                6. End by thanking God for our bodies which can perform so many actions.

             Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

                1. The children should be able to distinguish a verb from a noun in a simple
                    sentence.

                2. They should be able to use verbs in their writing.
