vocal cords, which are at the top of the windpipe. Air passing over the vocal cords makes
                     them vibrate and this generates a sound.


                     Men’s voices are lower than women’s because the vocal cord is longer.

              5.     Gather to discuss these experiments. Talk about sound-proof rooms. Let the children
                     record their work with labelled diagrams.  Some children may like to try writing a sound
                     beginning with every letter of the alphabet to show the amazing range of sounds we
                     hear.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

        The children should have a sense of appreciation for the gifts of hearing and speech and realise the
        importance of them in building communities. They should also be more aware of the amazing array of
        sounds we hear daily. They should be aware of how sounds are made and that sound can travel
