                5.  Remind the children of the need of commas and speech marks.


                    E.g.    Jane said, “Come over here.”
                           “Let’s go home,” suggested Tom, “because it is getting dark.”
                           “I am nine,” said Susan. “It will soon be my birthday.”


                6.  Give lots of examples of direct and recorded speech so that the children can
                    confidently distinguish between them.

                7.  The children could make up a newspaper report using reported speech or they

                    could complete the worksheet.

            Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

                1.  The children should be confident in recognising direct and reported speech.


                2.  They should be increasingly accurate in using speech marks appropriately.
