Truth to Teach
• To discover more about the Anglo-Saxon way of life
Romans 14:17 ‘For the kingdom of God …. is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy
Spirit.’
John 3:3 ‘…no-one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’
• To compare the seven Anglo-Saxon kingdoms with the kingdom of God
• To find out about Augustine and the spread of Christianity
Way to Work
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. Compare our UK county boundaries with the boundaries of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, Essex, East Anglia, Sussex, Kent
3. Talk about what makes a kingdom. Compare Anglo-Saxon kingdoms with the kingdom
of God, referring to the above verses. Talk briefly about Augustine and the spread of
Christianity.
4. Let the children find out about Anglo-Saxon costume, jewellery, etc to complete their
worksheet.
5. End by thanking God for his kingdom.
Learning for Life
The children should be more familiar with life in Anglo-Saxon Britain. They should also
begin to appreciate men like Augustine who was used by God to introduce Christianity to
Britain. By comparing the kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon Britain and the kingdom of God, it is
hoped that the children will again recognise the eternal value of the kingdom of God and
that God is sovereign over the rise and fall of other kingdoms.
