THE VIKINGS SET SAIL!
Truth to Teach
• To introduce the Vikings
Acts 17:26-27 ‘…he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they
should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach
out for him and find him.’
• To study Viking sea routes to Britain – God’s sovereignty over placement of people
groups
• Outline topics for individual or group study
Way to Work
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. By question and answer establish how much the children already know about the
Vikings. Talk about the Vikings, where they came from and why they wanted to invade
Britain. (See separate sheet) Remind them that God is sovereign over the places
where we live now as he was then for the Vikings – Acts 17:26-27. God’s heart is
for people to reach out and find him wherever they live.
3. Show the BBC Zig-Zag video on the Vikings or read from the Ladybird book on the
Vikings outlining how they came to Britain.
4. Identify the main sea routes the Vikings used. Show pictures of a longboat.
5. Let the children complete the worksheet and spend time considering topics they may
like to conduct further research on during the next 2-4 weeks. Have lots of books and
other resources available. Outline guidelines for gathering and recording information.
Eg Viking feasts, weapons, games, farming, King Cnut, Allthing, Vinland
6. Gather back to discuss and review the lesson.
