Dealing with conflict
Although good active listening skills will help prevent conflict in meetings, conflict
may still happen occasionally. When conflict does occur, it can have a negative
effect on the meeting and future meetings. Therefore, it is important that any
conflict is dealt with quickly and correctly.

Some ways to effectively deal with conflict in meetings are:
                  • address the problem, not the emotions
                  • 1 or both parties may need to compromise
                  • try to empathise with the person
                  • use active listening
                  • smooth over the situation
                  • do not be defensive
                  • be flexible where possible.

                                         Remember, when dealing with conflict
Prevention is always better than cure
