running social media sites, Facebook has seen a downfall in popularity after facing
scandals about data security and fake news. 10 years after its introduction,
Instagram is now starting to take over Facebook after coming in first place for
social media preference amongst teens. Facebook and Instagram have a huge
difference which makes popularity really different too. However, some students at
SKIS were more inclined to using Facebook, and others to using Instagram. Our
group was inspired to find out which app high school students at SKIS preferred
more.
2. Experimental Methods:
We conducted a survey of our high school students to ascertain the various
thoughts on our research. For our quantitative method, we conducted a survey,
and for our qualitative methods, we interviewed two students, both of which were
targeted at students from grades ten to twelve. We decided to experiment with
answers from the high school students because we believed that since our student
body is made up of students of different backgrounds, the answers that we would
receive would be diverse.
Quantitative: survey
We decided to conduct a survey targeting high school students, to find out their
preferences between Instagram and Facebook. Having many students who recently
came from Korea, and since Facebook is more widely used there, we wanted to
find out if this would apply to our school. We asked questions regarding the
student’s preference of either Instagram or Facebook, reasons of which, and what
factors made them prefer one app over the other.
