AVON OPEN PAIRS
26 AVON OPEN PAIRS
After a fairly easy run through; the stages and for the second
. year running the duo of Philip Warr and Allan Williams took
the Avon Open Pairs Title
Hazel and Alan Berry from Templecombe were not
about to give the boy's from Smallthorne Pioneers an easy
ride. Winning four out of the eight ends played, it was a nail-
biting final end. Three shot
were needed for a win, two
shots to force another de-
ciding end Only one shot scored.
Our thanks must go to Mel & Barry Dillon of Warman's
Leisure Holidays who once again provided the trophies and hol-
iday vouchers for the winners. Their continued support is very
much appreciated.
I would also like to thank everyone who took part in making
the day so successful. Especially Philip and Allan who rolled up
the mats at the end of the day.
AVON OPEN FOURS
AVON OPEN FOURS
Entries to this competition were down on last
year (26 to18). The 18 teams were split into 3
groups. The winner of each group and the best
overall runner-up going through to the semi-fi-
nals.
Making it into the semi-finals were,
Hazelbury Bryant versus Evercreech, and
Winkleigh Drifters versus Templecombe.
After two very close semi-finals, Winkleigh Drifters
and Hazelbury Bryant made it through to the final. At
the half way stage Hazelbury Bryant were winning 4-
1 but failed to score again in the last four ends as Win-
kleigh Drifters picked up 5 shots to win 6-4.
AVON COLTS
AVON COLTS
Membership of the Team is open to any Avon Affiliated
Club member with ESMBA Registration. The forma-
tion of the "COLTS'' is intended to give anyone the opportunity to play competitive bowling but
not just restricted to those wishing to aspire to the “A'' Team. In a friendly but competitive at-
mosphere. In the past there have been players who have not been able to play for health reasons,
the ''COL TS'' Team would be an ideal way of being re-introduced into competitive bowling.
Matches arranged throughout the year according to venue availability. With ESMBA Level 1
Coaches on hand to improve your game! This is a new venture for Avon, therefore, the formation
and structure of the COLTS is under constant review by the Avon Committee for the benefit of
Avon and its members.
The result of first match for the Avon Colts against Wilts Moonraker Colts was, Avon 8 points
57 shots, Wilts 8 points 68 shots. A good result especially as Wilts had many Premier players in
their team. A proposed return match at Seend for 16 players has been arranged.
