Langstone Cliff Tournament 9
The opening evenings fun bowls drive was won by
Gordon Lucas, Vic Hildersley, Sandra Odams & Stella
Dunn, who had thge highest shots plus.
In the Singles Quarters, Stella Dunn faced a fight-
back from Janet Pearson but won 9 - 6. Lorraine Axtell
was in fine form against Phil Wright and won 10 - 2. in a
cracking match Geoff Cleave edged out Michael Bell 8 -
7. Faring better, Anthea Bell beat Phil Green 8 - 6 with a
last end two.
Anthea then faced her husband’s victor Geoff
Cleave and after ten ends the score was level at 7 - 7.
Singles Champion Lorraine Axtell but an extra end single to Anthea ensured her victory. In
with finalist Anthea Bell the other semi-final Lorraine Axtell continued her good
form with a 9 - 3 result over Stella Dunn. In the final Lorraine kept up her sparkling form with an
8 - 2 final victory over Anthea Bell.
In the Pairs Quarters, most games were won
comfortably. Michael & Anthea Bell beat Lorraine Ax-
tell & John Horsham 11 - 4. Marlene Gibbs & Sandra
Odams beat Marnie & Phil Wright 10 - 4, Sue & Brian
Channer got the better of Dot & Gordon Lucas 10 - 5
and completing the round Martin Booth & Dudley
Edgar led 8 - 0 after three end but Tina Napper&
Patrick Ferguson fought back to within two shots but
eventually lost 11 - 8.
Martin & Dudley went on to beat semi-final op-
ponents Michael & Anthea Bell In the other semi-final,
Marlene Gibbs & Sandra Odams were in sparkling
form and recorded a 12 - 3 win over Sue & Brian
Channer. They kept up this form in the final to beat
Martin & Dudley 13 - 2.
In the Triples Quarters Pat Mildenhall, Sue &
Brian Channer were pushed hard by Janet Pearson, Pairs Champions Tina Napper &
Marnie & Phil Wright but managed a 7 - 5 victory. Sandra Odams with finalists
Patrick Ferguson Marlene Gibbs & Michael Bell had Dudley Edgar & Martin Booth
a comfortable 11 - 4 win over Dot Lucas, Gwen
Clarke & Gordon Carbin. From 4 - 6 down finishing
with two three’s Lorraine Axtell, John Horsham & Al-
ison Eastgate beat Martin Booth, Brian Hawkins &
Dudley Edgar 10 - 6. The final game of the round
saw Joan Carbin, Sandra Odams & Tina Napper
record a 9 - 4 victory over Beryl Westcott, Janet Ellis
& Edwin Cleave.
In a tight semi-final Joan, Sandra & Tina
dropped a four on the fifth end to go 4 - 7 down but
immediately struck back with a four of their own and
eventually won 10 - 8. Patrick Ferguson, Marlene
Gibbs & Michael Bell had an easier passage with a
Triples Champions Patrick Ferguson, 9 - 1 win over Pat Mildenhall, Sue & Brian Channer.
Michael Bell & Gordon Lucas with Despite going 1 - 4 down in the final. Patrick,
finalists Sandra Odams, Tina Napper Marlene & Michael found a rich vein of form to run
& Joan Carbin out 10 - 4 victors.
