Oxfordshire County and Wantage and District Short
Mat Bowls held their annual Finals Day at Oxford Dis-
trict IBC Sandy Lane West. It was a very busy day for
the organisers Les Woodward and Martin Davies start-
ing at 9.00 pm with the County triples semi finals, win-
ners were June Hyde, D Bech and Bryn Jones going
on to play Martin Davies, Les Woodward and David
Wiggins in the Final later in the day
Also the County Singles Semi Finals were held

of these finals competed will two teams, the team who
won the overall ends being the winners.
If the ends were equal the winners were the team with the highest shots. AII three of these
games were very good games, Wootton Chiefs winning overall playing for the League, against
Witney Mills Weavers, the afternoon league game
was very tight, with Drayton Wasps winning one
game and Abingdon Park Rangers winning the
other, therefore the result was the team who gained
most shots, Abingdon coming out winners 18 shots
to 16.The County Afternoon Plate Was won by Har-
well Swifts against Woodcote Woodpeckers.
The league trophies were then presented
Wootton Chiefs were winners of South & Vale Div
1 the runners up were Warborough Wanderers,
South & Vale Div 2 winners were Stanford in the
Vale Village Team and runners up Harwell Harle-
quins. West Oxford winners were Witney Mills, the
Weavers were runners-up North Leigh Millers, Ox-

noon started with the W & D singles, W & D ladies singles and the County Singles, Les Grey
winning against David Watts, Kay Dickson winning her game against Kim Bridge, the other
final was won by Chris Hasker over David Wiggins. The next two games were the County pairs
and the W & D pairs, Neil Davies and Gareth Davies winning the game against Pat Dunn and
David Wiggins, the other winners were Ruth & Tim Cross against Martin Davies and Kim Bridge.
Next came the Wantage & District triples, D Watts, and Lin & Santo Orlando, won their
game against Tom Gardiner, Bridget Evans and Pat Mildenhall. The County Triples were won
by June Hyde, D Rich and Bryn Jones.
The final games of the day were the W & D fours, Bert Butterfield, Doreen & Eric Hasker
& Carol Robbins winning their game against C Nobes, Mike Buzzard, and Sandra & Tony Anns.
The County fours were played by D Gessey, Ros Howarth, N Pratley and Chris Hasker who
were beaten by Pat Dunn, Martin Davies, Les Woodward and David Wiggins.
The day had been very successful and everyone went away feeling they had played their
best even if they did not go home with a trophy.
