The second was that the standard of bowls would be very high. Teams included

and Cebu Bowls World Cup Teams in training.
The 6 pairs were divided into 2 groups of 3 and played round robins to determine the
rankings for the knock-out stages. The 2 group winners would advance to the Semi Fi-
nals while the remaining 4 teams would play off to advance. Results were: Group A 1st:
Kirk Bradley & Tom White
2nd: Neil Lyndsay & Kristine Ward, 3rd: Paul & Jacquie Goebe. Group B 1st: Tony
Phillips & Billy Campbell, 2nd: Damien Allison & Trey Bishop, 3rd: Bob Ward & John
Raineyl
In the play offs for two of the four semi-final places, Damien Allison & Trey Bishop
defeated Paul & Jacquie Goebe whilst Neil Lyndsay & Kristine Ward defeated Bob Ward
& John Rainey. The semi-finals went to form with the two group winners edging out the
play off pairs and in the final Kirk Bradley & Tom White got the better of Tony Phillips &
Billy Campbell to be the new Club Pairs Champions
And so what a fitting finale, to have the man of the hour crowned Club Champion
for the first time. His partner Kirk was also our very first Club Singles Champion back
in 2008, so it is great to see him back at the top once again. Their performance in the
final was certainly worthy of their title as they battled past the very strong combina-
tion of Tony and current Emerald Isle Bowls Series leader, Billy Campbell.
The Champions and runners-up were presented with certificates to mark their
achievements and Tom was also presented with a certificate signed by all the bowlers
wishing him and his family all the best back in the UK. We hope to see them all back
soon for a visit and another day of bowls. Perhaps Tom will return to defend his title
next year?

Thanks to Annie and the staff and the Emerald Isle for the great hospitality, as ever,
and for the sponsored beers as prizes. Thanks to Trey for designing and printing the
eye catching certificates. Thanks again to Neil, John and Tony for performing the
groundskeeper's duties to make the mats playable. Thanks to all the bowlers and
spectators who turned out to give Tom such a wonderful send-off.

While playing in a weekly rollup match on Bob Elias de-
livered one of his famous bouncers, which to the relief of
his opponents hit the block moving it forward, the bowl
jumped in the air, landed on the centre block then landed
and stopped balanced on top of it and just sat there.
Whitchurch Short Mat Bowling Club is in the pictur-
esque location of Symonds Yat near Ross on Wye. We
play in the Hereford league and roll up Nobody could re-
member seeing that happen before, fortunately Geoff
Ludlow had his mobile handy to take the photograph.
