           In the semi-finals Graham Reeves defeated David Stokes 17-7 and Peter Hore won 12-5              27
           against David Topliffe.  In the final Graham won 12-8 against Peter. In reaching the final
           Peter achieved the milestone of 100 points on the County Points list over last 3 seasons.
           HOLMANS CLUB WINS THE ESMBA/TLH TOP CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
           HOLMANS CLUB WINS THE ESMBA/TLH TOP CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
                 At the TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay, two Cornish teams representing the Holmans club
           competed in the English Short Mat Bowling Association/Torquay Leisure Hotels Top Club Cham-
           pionship in Torquay.
                 In the Group Stages Holmans 2 (John Worton, Chris Roberts, Luke Jolly, Ken Horrell, Martin
           Boraston and Alan Holden) were drawn in group 1 to face Portsdown (Hampshire), Templecombe
           1 (Somerset) and E57 Rollers (West Midlands).  The first game resulted in a 2-7 points and 24-
           39 shots defeat to the E57 Rollers.  The second group game was against Templecombe 1 with a
           narrow 5 points to 4 and 34 shots to 32 win.  The final group game against Portsdown was won 7
           points to 2 and 29 shots to 27.  This left the team in second place in the group and through to the
           knock-out stages.
                 Holmans 1 (Peter Hore, Elise Daniell, Mark Eddy, Nigel Nicholls, Gillian Cawrse and Neil
           Gribble) were drawn in group 2 to face Gloster Knights (Gloucestershire), Kingscliffe 2 (Somerset)
           and Templecombe 2 (Somerset).  The first game against Templecombe 2 was won comfortably 6
           points to 3 and 45 shots to 20.  Against Kingscliffe 2 Holmans were dominant taking all 9 points
           and a 56-20 shots advantage.  The final group game against Gloster Knights was closely fought
           with Holmans losing out by 4 points to 5 and 29 shots to 32.  The result was enough to see both
           teams through with Holmans 1 topping the group.
                 In the Quarter Finals competition both Holmans teams were drawn to play each other.  Hol-
           mans 1 claimed the Singles 13-4 with the Fours drawn 8-8 in the first session.  In the second ses-
           sion the pairs were drawn 8-8 and a tight Triples game ended in a 6-3 advantage to Holmans 2 to
           leave Holmans 1 to progress to the Semi Finals by 5 points to 4 and 32 shots to 26.
                 In the Semi Finals, Kingscliffe 1 (Somerset) proved the opposition.  Nigel Nicholls won the
           Singles comfortably 18-8 but in the Fours Elise Daniell, Neil Gribble, Gillian Cawrse & Peter Hore
           went down to a 6-7 loss.  In the second session Mark Eddy & Nigel Nicholls lost 6-12 in the Pairs
           and Elise Daniell, Neil Gribble & Peter Hore won 12-5 in the Triples which added up to 5 points to
           4 and 40 shots to 32 win.
                 In the first session of the Final against Gloster Knights Nigel Nicholls lost the Singles 5-11
           and Mark Eddy, Neil Gribble, Gillian Cawrse & Peter Hore the Fours 4-7 to leave it all to do in the
           second session.  Mark Eddy & Peter Hore won the Pairs 12-8 and Elise Daniell, Gillian Cawrse &
           Nigel Nicholls the Triples 11-4 t leave the final score 5 points to 4 and 32 shots to 30 in Holmans
           1's favour securing the first major National Short Mat Bowls title to come to Cornwall in the 24
           year history of the CCSMBA. The Triples concluded the Championships with Nicholas, Nigel and
           Peter forming one team and John & Chris joined by Richard Brown (Ladock) to make up the other
           team.

           NATIONAL TRIPLES
           For the second year in a row a
           Cornish Triple fought their way
           to the National Triples final. Their
           opponents were Devon's Bron-
           agh Malone, James Smith & Lee
           Toleman.
                 In a tight match the final re-
           sult was decided by a couple of
           key shots which saw the Devon
           team take the win 7-4, leaving
           Nicholas,  Nigel  and  Peter  as
           runners up for a second year.
