Although we didn’t have confirmation at the time,
there were strong rumours that the Bowls Hall was
closing at some time. We thought we could get in
next year’s 20th anniversary event but it turned out
it is closing this summer.
The opening evening’s fun bowls drive was
won by Gill Kent, Clive Younger, Joan Ramsden &
Phil Wright, who finished with a plus of 11 and won
a box of chocolates each.
Singles winner Steve Dick and
finalist Clive Younger
The 2-bowl singles event was as ever the first big
event to be completed. At the semi-final stage Steve
Dick edged out Tony Kent 8 - 5 from 5 across. Clive
Younger did exactly the same against Pat Beards-
ley, winning 9 - 6 from 6 across. The final started
evenly but from 3 across Steve Dick scored a two
and two singles to win 8 - 3 with the last end un-
played.
In the semi-finals of the Pairs, Lance Windsor
& Jeanette Richards lost 7 - 11 to Tony Kent & Gerry
Russell whilst Roly & Dawn Fincham were pushed
all the way but snatched a last end 7 - 6 win over
Sandy & Alan Goodenough scoring a two to give a
one-shot victory.
The scene was set for an all clubmates final
and after a very tough game Tony Kent & Gerry Rus- Seated Pairs Champions Tony Kent &
Gerry Russell with finalists Roly &
sell emerged as champions.

In the Triples semi-finals Lance Wind-
sor & Jeanette Richards, aided by
Richard Davies, went one better than
the pairs and won their semi-final
match against Bryan Jones, Jim &
Jean Weatherill by 7 - 4.
Also reaching the final, Clive
Younger, Margaret Jones & Ann Onan-
Read had a very comfortable 13 - 3
win over Leslie McKenzie, Shirley
Williams & Bob Wood.
In the final it was Clive, Margaret
& Ann’s turn to be under the cosh as
Lance Windsor, Jeanette Richards &
Richard Davies romped away with the
Seated winners Richard Davies, Jeanette Richards scoreline and eventually winning 12 -
Lance Windsor and finalists Margaret Jones, 5 with the last end unplayed.
