COUNTY MIXED FOURS
COUNTY MIXED FOURS
Twenty teams competed in the qualification 24
rounds for the County Mixed Fours champi-
onship at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.
Teams were split into five groups of four with
the group winners and three best runners up
reaching the finals.
Group One honours went to Bill Sharp,
Lynn Golledge, Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) & From
Max Burden (Blisland) with 5 points +25 shots. Nick Truscott
Group Two saw Joan Boddy, Meg Horrell, Joe
Dixon and Ken Horrell (Withiel) with 5 +20 take top spot and Diane
Garfield, Patsy Wakeley, Chris Roberts & Brian Wakeley take a runners up spot with 4 +8.
A drawn final game in Group Three saw Sheila Hodge (Liskeard), Diane Shorthouse, Dennis
Shorthouse & Neil Gribble (Landrake) take top spot with 5 +12 and Elizabeth Staple, Robert Staple,
Val Risdon & Geoff Risdon (Lanteglos) also qualify with 5 +10. Miriam Barbery (Dobwalls), Marilyn
Stewart, Arthur Hambley (Withiel) & Keith Matthews (Blisland) took top spot in Group Four with 5
+6. A win in the final game saw Val Smith, Trish Hodge (St Tudy), David Shaw & David Topliffe
(St Minver) take the final runners up spot with 4 +10.
Group Five was decided on the final game with Elise Daniell (Holmans), Caroline Moore,
Nicholas Truscott (Luxulyan) and Peter Hore (Holmans) becoming the only team on the day to
win all three games finishing with 6 +9.
In the quarter finals, Bill Sharp, Lynnette Golledge, Brenda Sleep and Max Burden were 14-
2 winners against Val Risdon, Elizabeth Staple, Robert Staple and Geoff Risdon. Diane Short-
house, Sheila Hodge, Dennis Shorthouse and Neil Gribble defeated Meg Horrell, Joan Boddy,
Joe Dixon and Ken Horrell 10-7. Trish Hodge, Janet Carter, David Shaw and David Topliffe won
a tight game against Marilyn Stewart, Miriam Barbery, Arthur Hambley and Keith Matthews 7-6.
Elise Daniell, Caroline Moore, Nicholas Truscott and Peter Hore were 10-7 winners against Patsy
Wakeley, Diane Garfield, Chris Roberts and Brian Wakeley.
The semi-finals saw a winning last bowl played by Neil Gribble to see his team through 7-6
against Max Burden. The other game was not so close with David Topliffe leading his team to a
12-2 win against Peter Hore. In the final Neil Gribble’ four defeated David Topliffe team by 11-8.

COUNTY SINGLES
66 bowlers competed in the County Singles Competition with 36 playing on Saturday and 30 on
Sunday with 8 bowlers on both days progressing from group stages to a knock out round.
In the knockout rounds on day 1 Dave Studden defeated Alan Holden 12-3. Dennis Short-
house was a 11-10 winner against Peter Skinner. Keith Matthews won 10-6 against Chris Roberts
and Peter Hore (Holmans) was a 12-5 winner against Fran Phillips. On day 2, with only 7 groups
Tony Liddicoat progressed to the knockout as highest runner up on shots scored after 3 bowlers
finished on 4 +16. Liddicoat took full advantage of the runners up spot defeating Percy Tripp 11-
9. John Worton won 8-7 against Lesley Clayton. Nigel Nicholls defeated Joe Dixon 11-4 and Gra-
ham Ford was an 8-6 winner against Martin Boraston.
The 8 winners of the knockout games returned to Carnmoggas for finals day. In the Quarter
Finals Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) defeated Keith Matthews (Blisland) 14-6. John Worton
(Ladock) was an 11-5 winner against Graham Ford (St Newlyn East). David Studden (Illogan)
defeated Peter Hore (Holmans) 11-6. Dennis Shorthouse progressed with a bye. In the Semi-fi-
nals Nigel Nicholls defeated John Worton 9-4 and Dennis Shorthouse was a 13-3 winner against
David Studden. In the Final Nigel defeated Dennis 14-5.

In the Quarter Finals an all Dobwalls match saw Robert Rawlings, Bill Sharp, Brenda Sleep & Max
Burden defeat Graham Sleep, David Griffin, Martin Boraston & Derek Newton 17-1. Robert James,
Margaret Jenkin, Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) were 11-6 winners against Elise
Daniell, Derek Elliott, Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore (Holmans).
