1. Eldest son of ancestor Yan Wei
Chin, YAN YU YU, invented a
scarlet fish trap, and as a result
of which, he received praise for
his achievement. He served the
new Hsin Dynasty, chiefly to
end hostility and bring in order.
His last position was that of a
vice commander, leading
soldiers in a Prefecture
commandery to provide guards
in an umbrella formation,
protecting the frontier from
being breached. His
commanding officer was Tsao
Tseng.
2. Second son of ancestor Yan Wei
Chin, YAN YUN NAN began his
career as an officer-in-charge of
Law and Order in a district. He
was then selected and promoted
to host the Court of Justice.
Soon, he became a company
commander to administer an
assembly in which the affluent
and rich citizens were given the
right to air their grievances in a
fair discussion. His duty was to
hear all the wrongs, find the
solution and hand down the
decision reached by all parties.
In his old age, he reached the
rank of a great official.
3. Third son of ancestor Yan Wei
Chin, YAN CHENG CHING (Yan
Zhenqing) , styled Ching

Chen, posthumous title Wen
Chung. As a small boy, he relied
upon his mother of the Yin clan,
whose own mother came from a
nobility family, to educate and

train him up to serve in the
public service. Attentive in his
study and filial to the family, he
created an unheard of precedent
as a 20 year old youth who had
undergone two capping
ceremonies to receive his
Diploma and Master Degrees. A
successful candidate of the
National Civil Examination, he
was entreated and
recommended to enter service
as an examiner, using his good
judgement, and interviewing the
candidates who held various
grades of degree and sought to
secure high government posts.
His next appointment was that
of a secretary, an official rank
with varied duties, prominently
those of a censor, conducting
censorship and impeachment
tasks. He was again promoted
to become the permanent
secretary-in-charge of every
government departments in the
nation. Finally, he was
installed as Duke Lu of Lu
duchy with a mandate to defend
the king from attacks by
inhabitants of the steppe and to
save the throne by sending
troops to rescue the monarch in
time of crisis. Accordingly, he
raised an army of soldiers in
Hopei to crush the rebellion of Li
Hsi Lieh. He reached a life span
of 78 illustrious years and
received the highest honor as
the “Master Teacher” of Princes.
