Sick leave is granted at the discretion of the LSBA and shall not be construed as a vested
right of the employee and shall lapse at the termination of employment with no
compensation for any accrued leave.
G. Equal Opportunity Employer
The Louisiana State Bar Association is an equal opportunity employer. It is the policy
of the Association not to discriminate against any employee or applicant for
employment on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation,
national origin, ancestry, marital status, citizenship status, disability, or veteran status.
The Association will employ only applicants who possess necessary skills, education, and
experience for its positions.
H. Exemption from Payment of Dues
1. In accordance with LSBA Bylaws Article I, Section 1 the Board of Governors
or its designee is vested with the authority to consider dues waivers for those
members experiencing financial hardship, illness or other extraordinary
circumstances. The following policies shall apply.
a. A lawyer requesting to be excused from payment of membership
dues on grounds of financial hardship, illness or other extraordinary
circumstances shall file such request with the LSBA by June 1 of the
year preceding the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) for which the dues
are assessed. The request shall be signed by the lawyer seeking to be
excuse and shall set forth in detail the reasons for the request. Each
request shall include a statement of the lawyer’s assets at the time
submitted and his or her gross and net income from all sources for
the year during which the request is made and the calendar year
preceding the year during which the request is made.
b. The Board of Governors or its designee shall promptly approve or
deny the request and shall provide written reasons if the request is
denied. The executive director or director of administration shall
notify the requesting lawyer in writing of the action of the Board or
its designee. All such decisions shall be final.
c. A request for excuse from payment of dues shall not suspend the
obligation to pay the dues in accordance with LSBA Bylaws, Article
I, Section 1. A lawyer may submit a copy of a notice of LSBA Board
approval of a requested excuse in lieu of the dues with the Attorney
Registration Statement. No action by any lawyer or by the Board of
Governors or its designee shall in any way modify the obligation of
the lawyer to file the Attorney Registration Statement.
d. An excuse granted pursuant to this policy shall be effective only for
the dues for the year following the filing of the request.
e. A request for excuse, written arguments in support of that request,
and documents submitted with the request shall be confidential.
2. Upon written request and receipt of a copy of the related Order, any LSBA
member who is also a member of the Reserve or Guard and who is called up to
