Treating the Cut
Ends of Rope
There will undoubtedly be occasions when you’ll need to cut
your cordage for one reason or another. With the exception
of monofilament fishing line, the cut ends of a rope need to
be treated in some way, otherwise it will quickly become an
unraveled mess. Figure 3 shows an example of what the cut
end of rope will do if it isn’t treated properly.
There are four commonly used methods of dealing with
the cut ends of rope to prevent unraveling:
