UP AND AWARE - 7
Paired Exercise:
Here is a brilliant example of an idea that has gone
beyond all three periods. It has become a large
open canvas of unlimited ideas generated by
those who are interested in contributing to it.
Smith Magazine came up with an online
storytelling project called Six–Word Memoirs.
They asked their readers to tell their life story
in just six words. This project was inspired by
accomplished author, Ernest Hemingway, who
was once challenged to write a short story in only
six words. He came up with this: ‘For sale: baby shoes,
never worn.’
Six-word Stories includes stories by famous people, as well as, the entire Internet-user
community.
Decide the word limit of the story all learners would like to write. It could be six or more
words or two or more sentences.
Here is an example of a twelve-word/one sentence story:
I longed to drink water but the rain fell on the ground.
This story tells you that the writer was thirsty. Even
as plenty of water fell on the ground as rain, he did
not get to drink it and remained thirsty.
Your stories can be about family, school, nature,
holidays, school trips and so on. They can be
funny, sad or just a fact.
In pairs (NOT with your friends), think of a story
as per the number of words decided by all the
learners. If you decide on a 15-word story, it must
be no more or less than 15 words.
