A FAMILY TRANSFORMED
Rocio Taipan Family
THANKYOU
St Michael
Catholic Church
On behalf of the Rocio Taipan family, a heartfelt thank you goes out to you
for the generous gift of a home. Because of YOU...This family has beds to
dream in, a roof to protect them and a chance to take one more step on
the path out of poverty.
Rocío Paitán is a 33-year-old single mother with two children, daughter
Maricielo (8) and son Ludwin (3) who live in a hilly area called “30 de
agosto” which is part of Cambio Puente. To be able to provide food, clothing
and other essential items for her children, Rocío works in the fields as a day
laborer, sometimes fertilizing, weeding or harvesting tubers.
Rocío and her children live in extreme poverty. In spite of the limitations and a
strong determination, Rocio built a house from poles, estera, bullrush and wrapped
blue plastic around the room to try to reduce the winter weather coming through as
they huddled together to stay warm on a old mattress laying in the sand.
Rocío told us that the most difficult thing she has to do is leave her children with
a neighbor each day or home alone while she goes to work. She always fears that
something could happen to them. She puts her faith in God to protect her children
and goes to work, reiterating to them that they do not trust strangers. Rocío’s dream
is to be able to provide a safer home for her children and that her children could get
an education.
ACAF was made aware of this family and the dire living conditions that they were
enduring and with the help of generous St Michael Catholic Church donors FoC an amazing
Christmas gift was presented to this young family.
