Captured Chapter 1: War Comes to the Philippines
Family Activity Guide ESV

In chapter one, Arlene and her brother Hudson were asked to go outside in the dark to get water from the well
at the Bible school. Even though they were afraid, they trusted their parents, and they trusted God.

• Home Activity: Courage Cups
You will need:

o Water source (sink)
o Water pitcher
o Drinking cups for each family member

Family members take turns filling their water glasses and pouring them into the water pitcher.

As you pour the water into the pitcher, practice saying your memory verse—Isaiah 41:10.

Keep adding water until the pitcher is full.
When your pitcher is full, have an adult pour each family member a cup of water to drink.

While drinking your water, take time to talk about how you and your family can have courage and trust God.

Share a time when you were afraid but had courage because you trusted God and your family to help you.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you,
I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
