Captured: Lesson Two
Chapter 2: A Home in the Hills
• Introduce the story:
What is your school classroom like?
If you are homeschooled, your classroom is already in your house. What kind of things would you find in a
classroom that is not found in a house? What things would you find in a house that are not in a classroom?
• Activity: On a piece of paper, draw a picture of your house.
How many people live on your street? How many people live inside your house?
Houses around the world come in all shapes and sizes. Some homes are just a big room with different areas
for sleeping and cooking with very little furniture. Other homes are like the Hess home and have separate
rooms with furniture.
What would it be like if everyone in your neighborhood lived inside one house?
In our story today, we are going to hear about how God took care of the Hess family and kept them safe.
While we read the story, you can use your crayons to color the pictures on pages 6-7.

• Something to Think About (review questions):
1. In what place did the villagers tell the missionaries they could store their things? (schoolhouse)
2. What was the big secret that Mother told Arlene? (a baby is coming in August)
3. Other than swimming, what could the Hess children do in the creek? (catch crawfish and take baths)
• Action Plan (do something):
What are some ways you have seen God provide for your needs?
Think about a time when you know that God gave your family something special.
• Memory Verse:
1 Peter 5:7 ESV
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
• Talk to God:
Thank God for the way he takes care of us and gives us what we need to live each day.
• What we learned from this chapter…
