DAY25
SHE IS OVER 2 POUNDS!
During church on Sunday morning, I received a text message
from Heidi proclaiming “she is over 2 pounds”! I smiled as I
passed the phone over to Kathie to see. Alyssa actually weighed
in this morning at a whopping 2 pounds 1 ½ ounces! Gaining
weight, growing, and staying healthy are the main objectives
right now – and so far, so good. Her feeding was increased to
8ml every 3 hours today, and will be further increased
tomorrow.
The doctors and nurses are still concerned about the frequency
of her oxygen de-saturation periods. As a result, they will be
doing a few more tests on Monday to help determine if the
cause is any of the following:
A hole in the heart may be re-opening (ECHO test)
Fluid in the lungs (X-RAY)
Infection (Blood Work)
The fourth possible cause might simply be from over stimulation
from the NICU noise, lights, and handling. They are leaning
towards this explanation at this point. Until they can determine
the cause, it is very difficult to take your eyes off of the monitors
for very long….even Heidi, while she is giving care to Alyssa.
Alyssa has been with us now for 25 days ( 600 hours / 36,000
minutes / 2,160,000 seconds) and our Heavenly Father has been
with us every moment of the time, telling us: I LOVE YOU, I AM
WITH YOU, I AM HOLDING YOU.
Kathie and I left this evening assured of God’s presence, and
seeing Alyssa wrapped in her bedding and peacefully sleeping.
