DAY26
PRAYING FOR A MIRACLE DAY
Heidi’s prayer last night was for a “miracle day”. She was truly
thankful for everything God had done for Alyssa, but with the
stress of all the complications of the last several days
surrounding the low blood oxygen levels, she prayed to God for
the best day yet – she prayed for a “miracle day”. While text
messaging isn’t as personal as a voice conversation, it can relay
information quickly. So Heidi began to send me these short
updates throughout the day:
10:30 AM She is doing great! Her vent rate was reduced.
11:00 AM She will be at 9 ml of milk at noon and then
increase by 1 ml every 12 hours (more is better).
11:30 AM The Doctor said there was no need to do an ECHO
test because her heart is fine.
12:00 PM She is now down to a 29% oxygen setting
12:05 PM I think God has answered our prayers and given us
another miracle! Don’t you?
1:30 PM It looks like a very good day in the making!
5:30 PM She is still doing good and even tolerated Physical
Therapy (first time). She also tolerated her “care
time” (also unusual).
7:30 PM She is even on her back now and keeping her
blood oxygen levels up (something strange is
happening!).
Later that evening, Kathie and I finally spoke to her about the
day. Neither of us had heard her so upbeat or talkative for some
time now. Alyssa apparently also lifted her head up from the bed
(with tubes and all) and continued being her very active and alert
self. Through all of the issues that have plagued Alyssa, God
seems to have given all of us this special sign – her unusual
alertness and activity – that all is well.
I think God has answered our prayers and given us a miracle today! Don’t you?
