She continued to have “Brady” episodes (low heart rate) on a
regular basis. So, Lisa (with a few tears in her own eyes) and
the care team reluctantly decided it was best to intubate Alyssa
once again. But she did get 4 full hours in without the
ventilator, showing everyone that she was indeed gaining
strength. Her day would come!

After an hour of peaceful rest and stable monitor readings, the
care team decided to give Heidi the best birthday present yet.
Heidi was able to hold Alyssa for the next 2 hours!

During that time, Jim began to talk to Alyssa, and her eyes
opened to see where the voice was coming from. Then, as
Heidi asked Alyssa “who is that talking to you?”, her head
turned slightly, and her eyes shifted to Heidi, as she broke out
a big smile.
