DAY109
A QUIET DAY OF PRAYER
Today was a quiet day at the NICU. A few friends came by to
visit with Jim and Heidi in the afternoon, but most of it was
time spent alone with Alyssa. The NICU moved her to a private
room the other day. Heidi and Jim did her care, fed her, gave
her a bath and just enjoyed being with her.
We have seen God work in so many ways during this journey
and answer so many prayers brought before Him on Alyssa’s
behalf. We are now asking our Heavenly Father to reveal
Himself once more in a mighty way and totally heal the cancer
in Alyssa’s body. We ask this so that Jesus Christ can be
glorified.
Jim took the news very hard last Friday. Up to that moment, he
had been the rock and foundation of strength for Heidi through
this extremely stormy 109-day journey. Both he and Heidi
knew something was desperately wrong that day when the
Doctor came to see them and asked that they walk down the
hall to his office to talk. No one can imagine what was racing
through their minds as they walked in silence to his office –
knowing that they were about to hear only bad news –
otherwise he would have spoken to them in the NICU. When
Jim heard the word “cancer”, it was then too much for him to
endure.
Doctor Walter, the Pediatric Oncologist, came by to see Heidi
and Jim just to make sure that they didn’t have any more
questions. He further clarified that if the tissue is
neuroblastoma and only in the one location, they will most
likely monitor it to see what it does. If it doesn’t grow or shrink
then they will surgically remove it before she is one year old.
He is still very hopeful that it will be resolved within her body.
