DAY112
A DAY OF ANXIOUS WAITING
When we arrived at the NICU this morning, we found Alyssa in
her car seat on the floor. Jim and Heidi were next to her in
chairs playing chess. Apparently Alyssa was a little crabby in her
crib, but was very calm sitting in her car seat sleeping. Perhaps
she was telling us something!
At noon, we all gathered around Alyssa (still on the floor) and
prayed to our Heavenly Father for His healing and care for
Alyssa. At 12:30 PM, the care team came in to get Alyssa ready
for the tests and to transport her to Imaging and then to Nuclear
Medicine.. Now all we could do was anxiously wait to hear back
from the Doctors. Time seemed to slow down.
At 5:00 PM, Alyssa’s room was “standing room only” as the
Neonatologist, Nurse Practitioner, Primary Nurse, and other
NICU nurses joined the 7 of us to listen as Dr. Walter explained
that the tests came back negative – meaning it was NOT
Neuroblastoma. He recommended that we wait on doing
surgery, monitor the mass with ultrasound tests every 2 to 4
weeks and then determine whether or not to surgically remove
it. AND, he said there was no reason to keep Alyssa here –
everything could be done as an Outpatient – ALYSSA COULD GO
HOME ON THURSDAY!
Within 30 minutes of hearing the good news, we got another
amazing surprise. Two of our e-mail prayer warriors (total
strangers to us) from Kentucky that had been receiving my
forwarded daily e-mails and were praying for Alyssa from the
very beginning, felt compelled to make the trip to Wilmington
to see and pray for Jim, Heidi, and Alyssa in person. We never
met them before, but we were so blessed by their presence -
especially today.
