NICU WALL OF FAME
ALYSSA was born 15 weeks early, weighing a mere 1 pound 10
ounces. She could fit into the palm of a hand, her eyes were
fused shut, her lungs not mature enough or strong enough to
maintain adequate oxygenation on her own, and despite all of
this, her little body was perfect. And so the roller coaster of
having a premature infant began.
Her parents often watched helplessly while a team of amazing
nurses and doctors kept Alyssa alive with technology, medical
advances, research, and HOPE. She would endure 3 surgeries,
numerous eye exams, 60 straight days of life support, multiple
medicines, and numerous “bad days” followed by “good days”
– a total of 128 days in the NICU.
It was a very long journey… that ended with a beautiful,
healthy baby girl going home. Once Alyssa went home, she
never looked back. She grew, developed, and thrived.
Alyssa is now three and a half years old. She is happy, healthy,
beautiful, and smart.
