DAY186
A NORMAL BABY GIRL
On Wednesday, Heidi and GGMa Knop took Alyssa back to
Dupont Children’s Hospital for her follow-up visit with the
Endocrinologist. Tears came to Heidi’s eyes when she heard the
Doctor say: “ I believe that you have a normal baby here” – no
one had ever said that about Alyssa before – no one in the 6
months since her unexpected birth. Her Cystic Fibrosis test
came back negative, her thyroid is functioning normal (even
after the 2 nuclear medicine tests), and her cortisol levels were
perfect (indicating that her remaining adrenal gland was, in fact,
doing the job that 2 adrenal glands normally do).
Alyssa has certainly come a very long way since March 30 2006.
th
She loves her musical mat with the colorful hanging toys. She
loves to watch people at Ocean City. She loves to travel and visit
with GundPa and Gammy. She loves to play with Gammy’s
therapy equipment. And after a long day of activity, sleeps very
soundly.
Thank You Lord for all that You have done for Alyssa – for being
there for her and bringing her through an extremely rough start
to life. Thank You for demonstrating the power of prayer and
the mercy of a Heavenly Father. Thank You for touching the lives
of so many people through her ordeal. Thank you for our
faithful prayer partners. And thank You Lord for the impact this
journey has had on me – I will never be the same again. Thank
You for our normal baby - our little miracle girl, Alyssa.
You are the God who performs miracles.
