Survey (IPS) Remote Surveying Protocol
What is Remote Surveying?
Remote surveying is defined as using video-conference technology to administer the In-
Person Survey (IPS). Functioning audio and video communication are required for a valid
remote survey.
Remote Surveying Technology Requirements and Set-up
Technology
1) Both surveyor and person being surveyed must have access to high-speed
internet (a connection that is stable enough to use video conference without
significant audio/visual issues).
2) Zoom Healthcare platform will be provided to Contracted Interviewers (personal use
of this platform is not allowed).
3) Both surveyor and person participating in the NCI survey must have and use
functioning web cam.
4) The person being surveyed may participate via videoconference app on a smart phone.
The protocols regarding camera angle, people visible in the camera frame, etc.
described below still apply.
5) Full two-way audio support for communication, either through a smart phone,
functional computer microphone and speakers, a functional headset, or the
ability to connect via telephone for audio communication, is required.
Setup– Surveyor
1) Surveyors may not use a video conferencing app on a smart phone.
a. Surveyors must use a computer or tablet. Surveyors may use telephone connection
for the audio portion of the videoconference, though video is also required.
2) Surveyors are required to conduct survey in a private location (e.g., conference
room, home office space)
a. Only the surveyor(s) should see/hear the person (e.g., meetings should not be held
in a space shared with others or where co-workers, or others may be present).
