Holding a phone or iPad too close to the person
talking can lead to audio distortion, or holding it too
far away can lead to echo, hiss and low volume. This
makes its difficult for the audience to understand
what is being said and most likely they will switch off

Have students practise recording each other so that WHAT YOU
they can calculate how far the phone should be held
to get the best audio quality.

                                                                                 NEED TO
         PHONE OR IPAD ACCESSORIES

Microphones specifically made for smartphones and
iPads are available if you would like to enhance the
recording quality of your podcast when using these
                                                                            EDIT YOUR
         devices.

You can search the Internet for directional or lavalier
microphones that are comaptiable with the phone or
         iPad you are using.
                                                                                 PODCAST
Some manufacturers produce interview kits with
multiple lavalier microphones that you can use with
phones and iPads to take your audio quality to the
         next level. .

         USING PURPOSE-MADE RECORDING EQUIPMENT

         Purpose-made recording equipment is equipment
such as audio recorders, mixers and microphones that
are made for the specific purpose of recording audio
         at high quality.

Many schools have access to audio recorders, mixers
and microphones. Having this equipment is one thing,
         using it well is another.

Whatever purpose-made recording equipment you are
using make sure that your students practice using it
before they record their official podcast.

         EDITING YOUR PODCAST

Once your podcast is recorded it will most likely need
         to be edited.

Generally editing involves deleting the audio that
is captured before the podcast starts and once the
         podcast ends.

Also within the podcast long pauses when no one
is speaking, called dead air, and other slip-ups and
mistakes should be deleted as part of the editing
         process.

Mistakes that can accidentally delete or damage your
file can happen in the editing process.

For this reason it is a good idea that you have
students copy and save as a back up, the raw form or
pre-edit form of your podcast before they start editing.
