Club Events
Our club events are open to all 4SSC swimmers irrespective of having an existing entry time or
age. These may take the form of time trials at a club night, our annual Spring Club & Luke Jeffrey
Memorial Swim, our Autumn Club Championships or in the future, ASA Licenced development or
Open meets.
Spring Club Meet & Luke Jeffrey Memorial Swim
Usually running in March or April, the Spring Club Meet is open to all swimmers within the club
and is run in a similar way to an external “Open Meet” competition (see below). It provides a
good opportunity to obtain times for events that a swimmer has not previously swum or to
obtain PBs. in preparation for future competitions.
Luke Jeffrey was a swimmer with 4SSC who tragically died at the age of 15 in 2006 following a
shallow water blackout. Luke’s favourite event was 50m freestyle.
The Autumn Club Championships are normally held during September or October.
Entering Internal Galas
The club championships are run in a very similar way to an open meet and entries therefore
should be made in exactly the same way. The exception is that you can enter events for which
you have no time – simply write in ‘no time’ against the event you wish to enter for the first time.
The age groups for the main club championships are 9 and under, 10, 11, 12, 13 and so on. All
st
ages are ‘age at 31 December’, in line with ASA guidelines. Swimmers are encouraged to enter
as many events as possible, as the meets are a great opportunity to find out how they are
progressing and provide a focus for all the hard training. While most open meets are not open to
swimmers aged under 9 [external Development Meets being the main exception], all swimmers
are eligible for internal galas.
nd
st
Awards are made to each boy & girl swimmer coming 1 , 2 or 3 overall in each age group, as
rd
with most external meets. There will also be trophies for best 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under
and a plaque will be presented to the overall ‘Club Champion’ for both boys and girls. Parents
are responsible for returning the plaques, clean and polished (please!), by the deadline for the
next year’s championships.
